    Purification of the Soul

    Patience is half of Imân

It is through faith that we know the reality of Allâh’s commands and prohibitions, or reward and punishment, and it is through patience that we carry out His instructions and abstain from that which He has prohibited.

Patience at the time of bereavement

The loss of a loved one is a time when a person may be overwhelmed with grief, and many customs surrounding bereavement reflect the depth of the feeling of loss. Wailing, eulogizing (i.e. praising the deceased excessively) and tearing one’s garments are all customs which were well known at the time of Jâhiliyyah, and are still common among some Muslims.

Advice on staying away from doubtful matters

"Abstain from the forbidden and you will be the most devout worshippers amongst the people. Be content with what Allah allocates for you from provision and you will be the richest of people. Be good to your neighbor and you will be a believer. Love for the people what you love for yourself and you will be a Muslim and do not increase in laughter because too much laughter kills the heart. “ - Prophet Muhammad (SAWS)

Sahâbah on the virtues of patience

‘Umar ibn al-Khattâb (RA) said: “The best days we ever lived were by virtue of patience, and if patience were to take the shape of a man, he would be a noble and generous man.”

    Uprightness

Man's happiness lies in maintaining the nature upon which Allâh created the creation. He should not allow his nature to deviate from the straight path nor should he live it for neither desires and doubts nor should he left his soul at the mercy of devils among the jinn and mankind. He should rather seek the protection of his soul with Allâh, rely on Him and hold fast unto the upright religion of Allâh. [(Dhul-Hijjah 22, 1424 (February 13, 2004)]

Allâh created man and provided him with the tools for acquiring knowledge, namely hearing, sight and wisdom.

What is the most difficult type of patience?

The degree of difficulty in abstaining from some things depends on the strength of one’s motive and one’s ability to do the action in question. Whoever has no motive to kill, or steal, or drink alcohol, or whatever, and at the same time in not able to do it, will find it very easy to exercise patience in abstaining from those things. Whoever has a strong motive to commit a wrong action and has the means to do so, will face great difficulty in exercising enough patience to abstain.

    ‘Ilm – Gotta Have it

Allah ta'ala blessed my wife and i with the opportunity to live in Madinah for 6 years. In the final year, during exam week, I came home from an exhausting 6 hours of exams and entered the apartment. My wife came in from our Muslim Bulgarian neighbors and said, "I have sad news." I saw in her face like her father had died. And I said, "What? What happened? Did your parents die?" She said, "No, Shaykh Bin Baz died today!"
